Join the HPH Team

Hamilton Prop House isn't your typical workplace — and we wouldn't have it any other way.

We're a small, creative Team doing some pretty big things — and we're looking for people who want to be part of building something special.

At HPH, no two shifts are exactly the same. One day we're setting vintage china for Afternoon Tea on the Train. The next we're preparing for a cocktail class, movie night, private party, themed dinner or an event we haven't even dreamed up yet.

Working here means…

You'll learn.

We're happy to teach people who genuinely want to learn — food prep, event service, cocktails, hospitality, or simply how an event comes together.

You'll contribute.

We're a small Team. Your ideas, effort and personality matter here. You're not employee #247 — you'll see the direct impact of your work.

You'll never be bored.

HPH changes constantly. Our menus change. Our events change. Our guests change. Sometimes our entire space changes!

You'll meet wonderful humans.

Our community is a huge part of who we are — the members who return week after week, and the people discovering HPH for the first time.

You'll be encouraged to be yourself.

Personality is welcome here. Kindness is essential. A sense of humour definitely helps.

You'll be part of a Team.

We work hard. We help each other. We clean up together. We celebrate the wins together. And when something unexpected happens, we figure it out together.

You don’t have to arrive knowing everything. You do need to arrive curious, dependable, kind, willing to learn and ready to jump in.

If you’re looking for predictable, corporate and exactly the same every day, HPH probably isn’t the place for you. But if you’re looking for somewhere creative, welcoming, wonderfully unusual and growing…

Come make a little magic with us. 🚂

Full details

Hamilton Prop House is a unique hospitality and event venue in Hamilton, Ontario.
Home to our vintage train car, bar, café and event spaces, HPH hosts everything from Afternoon Tea on the Train and cocktail classes to movie nights, private events, themed dinners and community gatherings.

Our food program is an important part of those experiences, with Chef Lulu creating fresh, thoughtful and often wonderfully themed menus for our guests each week.

As our events continue to grow, we\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'re looking for a Kitchen Support Team Member to join us.

The Role
This is a hands-on, entry-level kitchen position supporting Chef Lulu and the HPH Team with the day-to-day preparation and execution of our food service and events.

And we\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ll be upfront:
There will be dishes. Lots of dishes. 😊
But this role is much more than standing at a sink.

You\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ll have the opportunity to work directly alongside an experienced professional Chef, learning about food preparation, plating, kitchen organization, event execution and what goes into creating everything from a Friday night Fresh Menu to a beautifully presented Afternoon Tea.

For someone interested in food and hospitality who wants an opportunity to learn by doing, this is a great place to start.

Responsibilities
Your responsibilities may include:
Washing dishes, glassware, cookware, utensils and kitchen equipment
Maintaining a clean, organized and sanitary dish area
Assisting Chef Lulu with food preparation
Washing, chopping, portioning and preparing ingredients
Preparing ingredients and components for upcoming events
Assisting with plating and presentation during service
Preparing plates, trays and tiered stands for events
Helping execute Afternoon Tea service
Assisting with weekly Fresh Menu preparation

Keeping refrigerators, storage areas and work surfaces clean and organized
Assisting with kitchen opening and closing duties
Helping receive and put away food and kitchen deliveries
Maintaining appropriate food-handling and sanitation standards
Cleaning and resetting the kitchen following events
Jumping in wherever an extra set of hands is needed

Who We\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'re Looking For
You do not need to be a trained chef.
We\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'re much more interested in finding someone who is:
Dependable and punctual
Hardworking
Organized
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
Able to follow instructions carefully
Willing to learn
Comfortable asking questions
Attentive to detail
Able to work independently once trained
Happy to work as part of a small Team
Comfortable being on their feet for extended periods
Able to safely lift and carry kitchen supplies, trays, boxes and equipment
Willing to clean just as enthusiastically as they prep and plate
Kind and respectful to both Team members and guests

Experience
Previous restaurant, catering, banquet or kitchen experience is certainly an asset, but it is not required.
If you\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'re genuinely interested in food, have a strong work ethic and want to learn, we want to hear from you.
A valid Food Handler Certificate is an asset. Candidates should be willing to obtain certification if required.

Hamilton Prop House is primarily an evening and weekend venue, so availability during these times is important.
The position may include:
Weekday food and event preparation
Friday evenings
Saturday evenings
Sunday afternoons
Special events and private bookings
Hours may vary depending on the HPH event schedule.

Event Manager

Casual / Event-based
Full details

At Hamilton Prop House, we don\'t simply host events—we create experiences.

From Afternoon Teas aboard a vintage train to cocktail classes, live music, movies, immersive performances, and community gatherings, every event has already been thoughtfully designed. What we\'re looking for now is someone who can step into the story and bring it to life.

This is NOT an event planning position.

You\'ll be the person ensuring every guest feels welcomed, every detail is executed, and every event unfolds exactly as intended. One evening you might be greeting guests for Afternoon Tea, the next leading a cocktail class, giving tours of our unique venue, supporting the bar, or helping guests settle in for a movie aboard the train.

You\'ll be part storyteller, part director, part crew—and completely committed to creating memorable experiences.

What You\'ll Do
Execute Hamilton Prop House events from start to finish.
Welcome and engage guests from the moment they arrive.
Host and facilitate experiences including Afternoon Teas, cocktail classes, movie nights, and special events.
Lead tours of Hamilton Prop House and our unique spaces.
Support bar operations and food service as required.
Set up, reset, and maintain event spaces.
Ensure timelines, décor, music, lighting, and guest flow run smoothly.
Anticipate guest needs before they\'re asked.
Work closely with the management team to execute existing event concepts with consistency and excellence.

We\'re Looking For Someone Who...
Loves people and naturally makes others feel welcome.
Thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days are alike.
Has exceptional attention to detail.
Takes direction well and follows systems consistently.
Is comfortable speaking in front of groups and leading experiences.
Can think on their feet and solve problems calmly.
Enjoys hospitality, theatre, storytelling, and creating memorable moments.
Is willing to jump in wherever needed—from pouring tea to moving furniture.

You\'ll Fit Right In If...
You believe the little details matter.
You enjoy making strangers feel like regulars.
You don\'t mind wearing a few different hats in a single shift.
You understand that great hospitality isn\'t about serving food or drinks—it\'s about making people feel like they\'ve stepped into another world.

If that sounds like you, we\'d love to meet you.
